I LOVE this disc! It is a real pleasure to hear the didj so beautifully used with ever changing timbres of accompaniment. This is not just a ‘didj’ disc that fits other instruments around one didj player, it is a collection of simply FANTASTIC music that results from grouping together various musicians of only the highest caliber. Animal Dreams shows that Dave Crowder is not really a didj player, but a master musician who happens to also be a master at the didj. It’s not really fair to single out any particular cuts because the whole disc is fantastic, yet some tracks are so stellar that they have immediately made my list of all time favorite ‘didj’ pieces. The opening track is a very rare treat - music where the didj is an equal part of an ensemble of great musicians playing fantastic music. Track 4 is such an enticing gem. The groove, the timbres, the melody sung on “Mastika”, all draw me in and carry me away. I love the soft buzzing ‘z’ sound that Cameron makes when singing this. It sounds so cool. Track 7 (“Seven”), in 7, is one of the coolest sevens I have ever heard. The 3+2+2 groove here is played and felt so naturally that it feels like some metaphysical energy or life force itself is simply flowing out its own smooth song. Beyond entrancing. I can’t do anything but melt into this track when I hear it. Real magic! The title track is simply the best didj meditational music you can get. Kudos and congratulations Dave. Animal Dreams is superb! Tim Whittemore www.bigblowandthebushwackers.com bbatb@hotmail.com 11/18/2003 You have made an album that stands up well under repeated listening...that's a biggie in my book and marks a quality effort on the part of the producer...whomever he might be. (In this case I know it is you.) I came to really like cuts two and three, five (outstanding) and six, but part of the reason they come off so well is the variety of sonic experience you have invested in the album. If all cuts were like number six...a wonderfully happy and rocking didge experience, that number would NOT seem so special. The vigorous and mystical oud and sitar numbers give a pleasing change of pace that just makes the other cuts all that much more enjoyable. David Ring 9/2/2003 The CD just arrived today. It's very impressive! You've sure come a long way since you started dabbling into blowing into that funny log. Todd Bradley 8/21/2003 I arrived home Friday evening to find Animal Dreams in my mailbox. I was so pleased that after a long hard week at work, I would be able to sit down and enjoy a much anticipated CD. I first smudged the room. This is a ritual that I perform when I'm going to do something that I feel spiritual. The music is WONDERFUL. However, there was a problem. It's so soothing that it lulled me to sleep. I played the CD twice that evening and somewhere in the middle fell asleep..twice!!! I decided to wait until morning. I must admit, it was also very relaxing first thing in the morning. However, I did listen to the entire CD. I especially like the animal imitations. You must have been developing those for years! I've always loved nature and knew I would enjoy the CD. Marie Di Gangi 6/30/2003 Your CD is a beautiful masterpiece. Kevin Polley 5/22/2003 I'm impressed - it's a slick production and the music is varied and emotionally evocative. Chandra Rueff 4/21/2003 awakening.........giving me some needed darshan....great track! Aisling_being 3/15/2003 Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know how much I'm enjoying your new CD. All the musicians that contributed did a wonderful job, yourself included of course. I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your efforts. Dennis 2/16/2003 I want to use your music called "Animal Dreams" for the intro of our Easter Drama Musical. We want to layer it with a Narration and then it would be used with an interpretive dance, special smoke effects and cool lighting. We will probably through Pro-tools make a 4 track surround sound giving the audience a feeling of being in the scene. Verner Drost 2/12/2003 The CD sounds great Dave! There is some very cool stuff on there. The tones of the instruments are very well recorded which makes it feel alive. I hope the CD does well for you, I know people are gonna love it. Chris Pederson chris@bushtic.com Not only do Gordon & I like the music on your cd, but we like the cover art (i.e. the Roo biscuit with the didj). There's dave's virtuoso didg playing, some great compositions, performers and instrumentation on this CD. It ranges from pretty straight ahead didgeridoo to an eclectic blend of world sounds. I can't wait to hear the rest when it's completed! Count me in for a copy Dave!
